Finally, a great Spider-Man movie. The first two installments of Spider-Man under the MCU, in cooperation with Sony, were lackluster to me. I thought Spider-Man Homecoming was okay and that Spider-Man Far From Home was not good at all. I hated it. However, there was something about this new Spider-man movie, Spider-Man No Way Home, that I knew would be different, and it was.
This version of Spider-Man has emotion, something that was lacking in the previous two Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. Of course, it is also loaded with nostalgia. It is no secret that Spider-Man villains from the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Spidey-Verse were coming back like Doc Oct, Green Goblin, Electro, and Sandman. Trust me, they were great, especially Green Goblin. William Dafoe has not lost his touch at all as Norman Osborn, aka Green Goblin.
I feel very safe saying that this is one of the best Marvel movies to be released and easily the best Spider-Man movie since Spider-Man 2. The audience in my theater cheered when the classic villains were shown on the screen and even cheered for some other characters that I will not spoil in this non-spoiler review. I am not the biggest Tom Holland fan as Peter Parker. I have always felt his Spider-Man was too much of an Iron Man/Tony Stark fanboy. After watching this movie those days seem to be over based on the way the movie ends.
Sony and the MCU set Spider-Man on a new path forward. It does not end the way you think it will. It feels like Spider-Man’s connection to the MCU as we knew it is over and he is more of a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man like Tobey Maguire’s version of the character. It will be interesting to see the next chapter in the journey of Spider-Man under Tom Holland. Is he doing more Spider-man movies? I am not sure. This was his 3rd outing. Toby Maguire had 3 and Andrew Garfield had 2 outings, maybe 4 and 3 respectively if you watch No Way Home.
I gave this movie a solid 9 out 10. It is emotional and I teared up a bit in a scene because it was emotional. The corny MCU humor was there and even with emotion the comedy is there in a good way. Check out the movie. You will not be disappointed even if you are checked out on the MCU because of The Eternals and Shang Chi. Wokeness is destroying the MCU but Sony owns Spider-Man and Venom, and those movies are not woke.
