Season 1 Episode 14 Review

In this episode, Yor appears only in the beginning, and then more of Anya and Loid. Anya receives a vision from a white dog and quickly makes up a hilarious excuse to Yor to save Loid, which is the focus of this episode.

Anya rides with the white dog and rushes to the clock tower. She is anxious and frustrated that she has difficulty telling time, but she gets help from an elderly man when she asks him. She also has the help of the white dog when she climbs into the rectangle hole to enter the room. There, she sees the bomb and the wires, but she does not know which wire to cut. All of them have the same colors, not different colors like she sees on her favorite spy TV show.

She then tries to think of a way to warn Loid from opening the door to the room. She plans to tell him face-to-face, but that would be too risky to keep her secret and explain how she got there. The doctor warns her in Episode 1 about the danger she would face if anyone found out that she was a telepath. She is scared of losing Loid and Yor as her parents. She loves her pretended family, as shown in Episode 4 when she describes her family.

The episode does not show how Loid and two Westalis agents arrive at the clock tower. It may be one of Keith’s followers who tells them. There is one scene that shows that they are caught and are in for questioning. They refuse to tell them anything, which is similar to the scene from the last episode when Sherwood, also known as Handler, interrogates a Keith’s member. In this episode, she also interrogates Keith’s members by using questioning strategies that work on them. They reconsider their values and actions, as their responses and reactions show.

The agent wonders if the message is some kind of code, but, of course, it is not a professional code. Anya draws it with ketchup, making it more resemble a kid’s drawing code. It has a big “no” on top. Below the words, it has a circle and an arrow pointing to the door knob. Below, it looks like a basic drawing of an explosion. It has M-shaped pieces that attach to one another to make a circle.
The agent does not care about the message and reaches for the door knob. He plans to turn the door knob as the scene focuses on his hand, whether he turns it or not. Then, it shifts the focus to Anya, the white dog, and the clock tower sound to create tension and emotion between the characters as time is running out. A good example in the scene is when the sound of the clock tower goes off. Anya is still anxious. Maybe more anxious than in the previous scene. However, her emotions change when the bomb does not go off. She suddenly lightens up, especially when Loid appears in her second vision. The question now is who will stop the agent from turning the door knob. Is it the agent himself or someone who stops him?

Loid stops the agent. His intuition tells him that something is not right. The message got his attention, which he could not ignore as usual. He considers the possibility of risk if they are not careful. That is why he checks the small rectangle Anya climbs into, and sees the bomb. The agent asks who wrote the message, but Loid tells them that they do not have time to figure it out. They have to get in touch with the Westalis prime minister since Keith may be there.

The next scene does not show if the agents and Loid are there for the prime minister, as to preserve surprise about who is saving the prime minister. Is it himself or Loid? At first, it seems he is saving himself. The Ostania government sent their men to assist him in the guest room. He refuses to get into the car, gets into another car and starts driving. Keith, who is in another car, is chasing and aiming at him with a bomb in his hand.

Minister Brantz jumps out of the car and starts running and jumping from one building to the next. Keith tries to catch up with him, but it is hard. Minister Brantz’s pace looks like he is in good shape regardless of his age. Keith is caught by a surprise. The pattern of Loid’s disguising as someone else to save or interrogate someone is not obvious. It is only when the ending shows that Loid takes off his mask of Minister Brantz’s face and runs to an alley.

Episode 14 has another attention-getter opening. It goes right into the focus of what the episode is about. It also demonstrates that time is important to change the course of events. Anya shows a consistent pattern of using her telepathic skills to do good and not bad. This is the same when Loid disguises himself as someone else. Later, it shows another moment of empathy for each character, especially the questions Sherwood asks. Her questions not only convince Keith’s followers to reconsider their values and actions, but they also reveal her values and past experiences. They also reveal that her previous life may have been gloomy and dark.
