Spy X Family Season 1 Episode 5 Recap and Review

The beginning of Episode 5 begins with disappointment and hope. Yor, Loid, and Anya are anxious for the result of the admission list, only to find out that she is not on it. They walk away from the school with their heads down and tell themselves that they failed. Depressed as they are, Housemaster Henderson approaches to inform them of the good news: Anya is on top of the waiting list. If someone on the admission list drops out, she will be admitted to the academy. They just need to wait for a phone call. Yor, Loid, and Anya are happy to hear that. They want Anya to get in. Eventually, she got in after Loid got off the phone, and this is where the adventure begins that leads to a heartwarming moment.

The news about Anya’s acceptance into the school got out fast. Franky comes to congratulate her, and he suggests Loid should get her a gift. Anya does not want any of the presents. She just wants to play the princess rescue game at the castle, similar to the Spy War cartoon clip. Loid tells her no. He does not want to be Bondman, a spy character in the cartoon, to save Anya, who wants to pretend to be a princess. However, Franky talks him into it. He contacts the Wise agency for a water-landing aircraft, along with other equipment to be delivered for him to take Yor, Anya, and Franky to the castle. The operator picks up Twilight’s message and gives it to the handler. She takes a look at it and feels awry. Her facial expression indicates that his request is for personal use rather than for the mission he is after, which is not part of the deal. Then again, this is a comedy and action series. Despite the confusion of Loid’s request, the handler is convinced that he knows what he is doing. She remembers that he was the best spy in Westalis. She tells the operators to give him what he needs.

At the castle, Franky is chasing Anya in the ballroom. Soon, she feels bored since it is not the rescuing game in the Spy War cartoon. Twilight contacts the agency again to request a team. The agency approves, and the team arrives on time. These agents thought they were on a mission related to the conflict between Westalis and Ostania, only to find out that they had a different role to play. Their job is to prevent Anya from Twilight from rescuing her, and it is expected that there will be action throughout the episode. Anya is with Yor and Franky on a miniature train ride, while Loid is on the other side of the train ride.

Loid is prepared to do whatever Franky throws at him. Then again, he underestimates him for the questions he asks related to Anya. Of all the questions, he only gets one right, knowing that Anya likes to eat peanuts. The last question seems like it is used as a trap to play out the scenario of the rescue mission like in the Spy War. She wants to make her fantasy come into contact with her reality for a moment.

Loid wears the spy mask and starts reaching to the top of the tower where Anya is held. Agents keep shooting balls at him as he dodges and knocks them out as he runs from stair to stair. At one point, he takes one of the agents’ toy guns and shoots it.

At the top of the tower, Loid sees Franky and Anya as the rest of the agents reach the top, exhausted. Franky introduces Yor as Yorticia, the deadliest witch, to defeat him. Loid does not want to fight her. He seems like the type of guy who does not like to hit or hurt women. He tries to dodge her moves, but she keeps attacking him. When he blocks her last kick, she suddenly falls to the ground due to her broken shoe heel. Loid called her name, but she did not wake up as if she had just fallen asleep.

Franky tells him that he cannot defeat him that easily, but Loid just knocks him out with a flying color as he approaches. Anya looks up at him, feeling excited. He then tells her that he came to save her and holds out his hand. Out of the blue, Anya calls out to him, saying “Papa,” and runs to hug him. Loid is caught off guard. He assumed he was supposed to be Bondman rather than a father, but Anya appears to have other plans. Maybe it is because the end of the game reminds her of her past. Maybe she longed for someone to come to rescue her, but no one came to her aid until now. It does not say, but it is a touching moment. Even the agents are happy for them.

Sitting on the castle balcony, Anya tells Loid that she has been filled with anticipation since she got out of the orphanage. She thanks Loid for bringing happiness into her life and tells him that she will do her best in school. He is startled by her compliment, but he is happy for her.

Episode 5 shows the emotional development of a father-daughter relationship but not much about the development of a mother-daughter relationship. Throughout the adventure activity, Anya appreciates what Loid did for her. In return, she is motivated to make every effort to do well in school. On the other hand, she is not as close to Yor as she is to Loid. In Episode 4, she said that she is nice but scary sometimes, as seen in Episode 3. In this episode, she does not care who Yor is supposed to be in the game. At the end of the episode, the agency receives the bill. It does not show the total cost, but the dialogue between the two agents shows that it is a massive amount.
