In this episode, Yuri has not changed his mind about Loid. Even though he reluctantly approves of Yor’s marriage, he still has his doubts. Loid is not concerned about Yuri since he has the upper hand in controlling the situation between them. He already knows who he works for and how to plan his next strategy to move forward toward completing his mission. However, he is concerned if Yuri knows anything about his true profession. That is why he is more focused on Yor than her brother, and Yor is more focused on her outward display than on acting naturally.
The beginning shows that Loid is having a dilemma about whether to put a bug on Yor’s collar or not. On the one hand, he tells himself that it is not necessary, suggesting that he start to trust her. On the other hand, he is not sure of his assumption of Yor not knowing what Yuri really does for a living. He still has doubts in his mind, and he needs to be sure when it comes down to it. His mission is to save lives and to create peace between the two countries. That is why he put a bug on her collar.
At work, Yor seeks advice from her co-workers on how to be a decent wife. She is upset about not being a good wife and mother to Loid and Anya, which comes as no surprise. In Episode 6, she wanted to be a mother to Anya even though she was not her real daughter. In this episode, it reoccurs to her that she wants to be a good mother, but she fails to be one. Anya’s comment on her cooking and the distancing she feels from Loid loses her confidence in being a good mother and wife.
Through their conversation, Loid begins to understand her real self more, but his certainty about what Yor knows about her brother is still in question. To ease his mind, he and Franky disguise themselves as “secret police” and stop her to ask her a few questions. She is startled by their title and the fake letter they obtain, but she is not afraid to defend her family. As shown in her voice and actions, Yor tells them she does not know what they are talking about. She just knows that her brother and fictitious husband earn a honest living. Loid now feels guilty for not trusting her, and now he sees her from a new perspective.
The following scenes are touching after Loid and Franky end up letting her go. Loid unmasks his face, changes his clothes, and runs into Yor, who is still upset about what just happened. She is surprised to see him but not at him, even though he tells her that it is a coincidence that they ran into each other. In actuality, he probably runs into her purposefully because he regrets what he did to her, which comes as no surprise. From the time they met each other to the present, Yor has not harmed him or Anya but supported them, as shown in previous episodes.
Loid alerts Yor that she has something on her collar before reaching inside to get a bug out. Yor feels hopeless as she stares down. She feels she is a bad wife who can’t even keep up a respectable demeanor, but Loid doesn’t share her opinion. He acknowledges her viewpoint and offers her some advice, which is very meaningful as their parents’ roles and relationships continue to build up. He suggests that it is good to work hard to be her best self. Even so, she should not dwell on pretending to be someone she is not, but focus on being herself.
The ending of this episode marks a fresh beginning for improving family ties. Loid and Yor are preparing a cake for celebrating their anniversary at home with their daughter. Anya definitely brightens her day when she detects that they are getting along, contrary to what she sensed earlier in the episode. Although she does not appear much in this episode, her appearance and her words do have a positive effect on the Forger’s family.
