Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari Season 1 Episode 9 Reviews

Episode 9 introduces a problem that Kadomori House encounters. A new tsukumogami group called Sogenbi kills one of Kadomori’s men. The squad led by Taiju Kadomori instantly hurls talismans into the air in an effort to find the murderers. Yu and Hyoma get involved in the situation to protect Botan for fear that the Sogenbi would kidnap her and hold her hostage. Tsubaki teams up with them for a fight. Would they be able to defeat their opponents?

The pre-credit scene has an impact. It gives a mysterious feel to the crime. Taiju Kadomori’s reaction and his staff’s dialogue foresee a significant event about to occur. This goes the same in the dialogue between Yu and Hyoma in the opening. Moreover, the pre-credit scene raises questions and keeps me on my toes. Who did it and why? Do they kill humans for fun, or do they have a specific purpose for killing? Are they the main villains?

The introduction of the new characters, Hikikiri, Shimoto, and Mushiro, also draws attention. The connection to the events that have been going on reveals Sogenbi’s responses. According to Yu, the Sogenbi wants to break the deal, which puzzles her as well as the audience. Do they just have enough of Taiji because of what he did to the tsukumogami he captured, as shown in Episode 7? If humans do not violate the norm that forbids Hyoma from staying with Nagatsukis, will they feel justified in attacking Kadomori? The group and Kadomori have been making corrupt deals. Taiju Kadomori supervises the unlawful tsukumogami and permits them to wander free. He then gives them to the remaining Sogenbi as a way of demanding devotion from them. Meanwhile, the Sogenbi is being watched under Kadomori’s radar.

The ending is disappointing. Hikikiri, Shimoto, and Mushiro They get killed off so quickly, like Hikaki’s team in Episode 3. I thought I would see them in the next episode or so. They seem hard to defeat. The way Taiji Kadomori and his crew act and look suggests that they are terrified of them. Also, a scene where Hikikiro defeats Hyoma and Yu suggests that he may be the villain, but no. They finish him off in no time. This goes the same with Yu fighting Shimoto and Agoi and his partner fighting Mushiro. They vanquish their opponents without much difficulty.

Overall, this episode is not entertaining, The information about the deal between the Sogenbi and Kadomori and the music are relevant. The pre-credit and opening scenes are intriguing at first, but they soon diverge from how the Sogenbi confrontation turned out. From the outset, it seems like this is not a gang to mess with, but the fight scenes do not support this impression. They bring little to no excitement, or they do not really build suspense.
