Please, for the love of God, never make another Matrix movie again. On my YouTube initial reaction video, I said to really understand it you need to watch it twice. However, the movie is so bad I cannot force myself to watch it again. Now, when Rocky vs Drago, aka Rocky IV Directors Cut, came out I was hard on that movie, but after a second watch I like it. Rocky vs Drago is light years better than this Matrix mess.
I am someone that really loves the first Matrix movie. It was revolutionary and changed film making. I really liked Matrix Reloaded and did not care much for Matrix Revolutions. I did re-watch all three movies before watching this one. This movie makes Matrix Revolutions look like Godfather Part II. This movie is a complete mess. If you are bringing back Smith and Morpheus than just bring back Lawrence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving. Lawrence Fishburne said he wasn’t even contacted to reprise his role as Morpheus.
Some have compared this movie to The Last Jedi. No, this movie is still better than The Last Jedi and not close. The Last Jedi is one of the worst movies ever made. The Last Jedi made Luke Skywalker quit on his friends and everyone he was supposed to be fighting for. Neo does not quit. He fights for Trinity unlike Luke in the Star Wars sequels.
Since I am referencing Star Wars The Trash Jedi (I mean The Last Jedi), I will steal a line from that movie. It is time for The Matrix to end. Yes, I said it. The last Matrix movie was in 2003 and it is 2021. We are in an era of woke movies and Hollywood has turned against fans for the most part. Thank God for Spider-Man No Way Home though. I could bet if this movie came out in 2010 vs 2021 the storyline and making of the movie would be better. I am not saying it would have been great, but better.
Keanu Reeves is one of my favorite actors. He is just great. He is Neo and John Wick. With that being said, I did not like the John Wick look in this movie. Neo should look like Neo in the movie and not John Wick and I am a huge John Wick fan.
It seems like very little care was given to this movie even when it came to the score. As a former composer myself film scores mean a lot to me. The music was not good. It did not feel like The Matrix. Yes, you still have The Matrix main theme, but the music of The Matrix was missing. Don Davis did an excellent job composing for the original trilogy of films. This time it was Johnny Klimek and Tom Tykwer working together and the score was forgettable.
Lana Wachowski did a much better job with The Matrix movies as Larry Wachowski. Please never make another Matrix movie again. The franchise is dead, and the box office numbers back this up.
