Spy X Family Season 1 Episode 7 Review

Episode 7 starts off with Loid thinking that his mission is going on a rocky road even though Anya got into the academy. His plan for getting Anya and Damian to be friends had gone out the window. Now, he has to help her become an “Imperial Scholar.” Anya and Yor thought he was still mad, but no. He would rather keep moving on to complete the mission than dwell on the past. They feel happy about that and plan to do their best, especially Anya. Loid, on the other hand, just focuses on the next step. He needs her to patch things up between her and Damian. When that fails, he realizes what he needs to do to really help Anya, which brings another warmhearted ending.

At school, Anya tries to apologize to Damian as Loid told her to. However, her ability as well as Becky get in the way. Loid stays with her the whole time she is at school to observe her and leave her clues. He wants to ensure that she makes an apology. Anya notices the word “sorry” scrawled in crimson sauce on her food in the school cafeteria. She plans to apologize, but Becky gets in the way again. Loid then intervenes, utilizing the school’s sound system to summon Becky to another building, where his actions exaggerate the importance of her seeking forgiveness from Damian.

Anya now has the chance to say sorry to Damian. She goes to the table where he and his peers sit. She wants to ask for forgiveness, but she gets distracted when she reads the minds of Damian’s peers. Damian feels speechless when he stands in front of her. His soliloquy and a visual image of him and his heart show that he is confused about his feelings toward her. Anya suddenly bursts into tears and expresses regret for punching him in the face. Damian is caught by surprise, which is the turning point in his character. He is touched by her action, but he feels speechless and does not know how to react. It is like he has never been in this kind of situation before. He is overwhelmed with emotions that lead him to either choose pride or unpretending as his character continues to develop.

Loid is disappointed with an unexpected outcome. In the earlier scene, he was smiling when Anya finally made an apology to Damian. He did not have to intervene between them. Everything just worked out in his favor, but no. Now, he has to go back to Plan A, which is to help her become an “Imperial Scholar.”

The ending is touching. Anya, Yor, and Loid all remember events to enhance their relationship with each other. Loid, who is frustrated with Anya not understanding how to solve the math problem, refuses to take a break from studying. Anya’s mother, Yor, who wants to go easy on her, is not too focused on Anya’s solving the math problem. She is more worried if she wants what he wants, which gets his attention. As they talk more, Yor begins to reveal her past as a flashback shows how patient she was when her brother taught various subjects and how she responded. Her past experience with her brother helps the montage of him show that he never thought about what Anya was going through. It never occurs to him what it takes to be a father, even though she calls him “papa.” Now, he refocuses himself on what needs to be done first. Anya, who has shut herself in her room, rethinks giving up on studying. The montage of her conversation with Loid at the castle motivates her to go back to her studies. She looks up to him and does not want to fail him. It is important to her. She does not want him to fail on his mission, and she does not want his family to break apart. She loves being part of the family, even though Yor and Loid are not her real parents.

Episode 7 focuses on how Loid is overstating the importance of Anya’s apology and trying to help her study, only to find out that it does not work. He feels frustrated until Yor comes along and reminds him of the importance of bringing the family or mission together. Together, they begin to dive into the experience of family life.
